Qantas First Review: 80,000 Points for First Class from London to Sydney… But Is It Worth It?

THE Qantas First Lounge in Heathrow is by far the best oneworld option in the terminal. It is spacious, much larger than what you expect, and although the menu is tightened than that of Sydney, all the favorites are there, including emblematic salt and Neil Perry pepper. Camden pale ale And Camden Hells Lager is at the tap, and there is Bollinger champagne associated with hot nuts and olives. It is not quite the Ultra-Polish of the Singapore Airlines salons, but it is close and miles ahead of the business fairs.

Despite its size, the living room can be filled when frequent platinum leaflets start to deposit for the Schlep economy, but the seats for the first passengers are reserved, so you will always find a quiet place.

The boarding was fast and discreet. The A380 is the only plane in the Qantas fleet to offer a first class, and you immediately feel the difference on board. With only 15 seats in the cabin, it is calm, intimate and impeccable.

Each suite is spacious, double the imprint of a business series, with a large LCD screen, endless storage compartments and a generous dining table that makes outdoor air meetings. There is even a loveseat for anyone plans to discuss or dinner with a companion at 40,000 feet.

Although the arrangement is not the traditional rafters of dimensions and possibilities, it works. It is not the first most private product in the sky (do not expect levels of Isomance Qsuite), but it is comparable to Singapore Airlines first. Privacy screens help if you are in the central seats, which I cut on the second step.

Qantas first food, Service and staff

The crew on this leg was incredible. Young, lit, super attentive and really cool. You have the meaning that the future of Qantas is well alive in first class. Nick, who took care of me, was a legend of the king. He expected everything, from the completion of drinks to the installation of meals and never missed a beat. At one point, I felt that there were more crews than passengers. Not a complaint.

The dinner on the London leg in Singapore was superb. A cooked net steak just right, twinned with a Shiraz in southern Australia 2019. There is even a chef on board preparing meals for first class passengers. The soup? So elite I forgot to take a photo. Breakfast? Pancakes and Bircher Muesli. I didn't need it, but I couldn't say no.

But here is the thing. Qantas sold his restoration arm a few years ago, so the quality of food varies according to the hub. There is no coherent global supplier for first class, so it can be a little touched or missed. Example, the last stage of Sydney was tough. Group who was harder than an old boot. And let's be honest, if you pay $ 20,000 for a return ticket (not that I was), it's just not the cricket.

Entertainment and technology

Everything in the future is checked via a touch screen remote control. It is quite reactive but perhaps less intuitive than the Emirates ice system.

The screen is large, shiny and perfect for zoning, but lack of Wi-Fi is a real problem. For a flagship product, Qantas is still behind the eight bullets. No internet in first class in 2025? Come on, guy.

A member of Singapore, you are greeted by a personal concierge, Ryan in my case, who guides you directly to the Qantas First Lounge, reserves you for a shower and welcomes you in a private dining room. The menu is inspired by Singapore with Neil Perry staples launched (yes, Calmar again). Ryan gave me a complete overview of how to jump the queues, what routes offer the best shot during a first upgrade and reassured the boarding had not yet started, so I could relax well. Class.

Qantas First on the A380 offers the things that matter most: space, service, sleep and this undoubted Australian charm. It is not the most flashy product in the sky, but it is real, comfortable and its best, luxurious. The absence of Wi-Fi and incoherent restoration lowered it slightly, but when you have legends like Courtney, Nick and Ryan take care of you, these rough edges smoothed quite quickly.

Qantas could first be the best kept secret in the airline. Just catch it during a good day.
