Hackathon Drives Innovation in the Travel Industry

    Summary:

  • The purpose of the event is to explore the new ways of distributing flight and travel products through the Camino -based network based on blockchain.

Zug/Frankfurt, May 6, 2025 .

In just 48 hours, teams from 13 travel and tech companies have created practical, ready to use solutions. Hackathon use cases have shown that these new methods are significantly better than traditional distribution channels.

Real challenges, real changes

Instead of focusing on the theoretical models, the event is about practical implementation. The goal: to explore new ways of distributing flight and travel products through a Camino Network -based blockchain. The main topics include new payment methods, CO₂ offsets, accessing emerging sales markets, and personalized group travel.

A jury of lufthansa group (LHG) experts selected the three most compelling projects:

  • The unimoni team A solution was presented for the integration of 300,000 travel agencies that were not in India in the Camino network-including local payment methods and direct access to Lufthansa's flight content. The solution significantly lowers distribution costs and opens new international markets, with strong potential for expanding in other regions.
  • The Swiss and Digital Hangar Team The jury admires their concept for enhancement of travel-ID through the integration of the web3 wallet, which allows the release, exchange, and management of digital identities and real-world assets such as vouchers and digital services.
  • The hotel team Develop a group booking solution: travelers starting from different locations but going to the same destination can book together while paying back -one -easier, fast, and reaching -reaching than ever.

In addition, the jury named Carbify as “winning hearts.” Their solution has shown how the Camino network can support the CO₂ reduction by providing full monitoring of compensation activities – until each planted tree.
Mickael WoelckeThe Swiss project manager and one of the major hackathon initiatives, commented: “More than many innovative cases of use developed during the hackathon, especially it is amazing to see how teams successfully included the LHG content of flying their platforms in just two days. partnering and significantly reduced to markets.

What's next?

The hackathon has shown the potential transformation of web3 technologies to the travel industry. Results featured how B2B partners can be integrated faster, time-to-market improvement and reducing both distribution costs and IT-related carbon releases.

The Lufthansa Group is currently reviewing which of the hackathon projects can be developed in concrete pilot applications. The chain4travel, Camino's initiator, will continue to support the partners in the travel industry in applying web3 technology in a significant and practical way.
