Who could be the next Pope? Here are some candidates

AA man baptized may become a pope, but traditionally he (and it is always “he”) is chosen from the college of the curtains chosen. This year, the potential candidates for Francis Liberal, the Liberal Secretary of State, the Italian Cardinal Pietro Parolinini Guinea's Cardinal Robert Sarahini, are extending, which is Franciscus's ultra -light and speechless critic. We also saw the first time in the American Pope, the Pope Sahara-back from Africa or the Asian Pope.

Campaign wrinkles, consultation with secret and constant flow coalitions is impossible to predict the result or even the top level of candidates. “The trash cans of church history are filled with a carcass of journalists who have tried to predict the next pope,” wrote Vatican's long -time analyst John L. Allen in a national Catholic reporter in the foreleg for a list of potential candidates, replacing Pope John Paul II in 2005. As if to prove his position, who greeted the world of St. Peter Balcony, when Pope Benedict XVI was not a few days, but it was not even Alen. Argentina spokesman Jorge Mario Bergoglio did, but it took another round before he was called Benedict's resignation in 2013.

The consultations in this week's Vatican have revealed several names as “Papabi” or Pope material, but at the moment they are more likely to represent the qualities the cardinals would like to see in the next guideline as any final choice. Let's list some here.

Matteo Zuppi: Inner Circle

Born in Rome, Zuppi, 69, is considered the most likely candidate candidate to be close to Franciscus, who is best equipped to consolidate their heritage. In 2015, Francis Zuppi named Bologna Archbishop, one of the most influential positions in Italy, and then made him an important conference of bishops as president in 2022. In 2023, Francis knocked Zuppi to be an ambassador to Ukraine. “Briefly pointing with a finger and publicly screaming:” This is my beloved son who is resting, “it is difficult to think about something else that the Pope could do to signal that someone has their own trust,” wrote Allen in a recent profile. Zuppi is closely linked to Sant'etio, a powerful group of Catholics, dedicated to social services that could give him an advantage.

Cardinal Pietro parolin: diplomat

Secretary of State of the Vatican since 2013, Parolin70, the Italian press has described Pope Francis as a natural heir. An experienced diplomat of the Holy See, who served in Venezuela, Nigeria and Mexico, sees him in the Vatican's inner circles as a reasonable moderate, who, like Franciscus, is consistently focused on democracy, human rights and humanities. Parolin followed the implementation of a controversial agreement with the Chinese leadership in 2018, which gave the Chinese Communist Party a role in naming new bishops in the country.

This agreement was concluded at the end of April when China's nationally sanctioned Catholic leadership unilaterally determined Two new bishops between Francis' death and the selection of a new Pope in the interim bishop. China's meetings – one of which was to replace the Vatican's already recognized bishop – is one of the first diplomatic challenges of the new Pope and emphasizes the need for a candidate who could handle the geopolitical challenges of our era. “There's a short list of cardinals that can be seriously imagined if I sit over Donald Trump, XI Jinping or Vladimir Putin's desk and on his own,” says Allen, who is now focused on the CRUX newspaper CRUX. He adds that Parolin is one of them.

Robert Francis Prevost: External Inner Circle

The American has never been a Pope and it is unlikely to change soon. However, Prevo, 69, who was the head of Francis' main advisory group in choosing the new bishops, has a broad -recognition that can give him an advantage in a large number of voters with little in common. With a family born in Chicago, Italy, French and Spanish roots, Prevost named the Vatican correspondent Iaacopo Scaramuzzi an influential Italian newspaper La Repubblica as “Americans the least Americans.” Prevo worked as a missionary at the beginning of his career in Peru before moving on to leading positions in the Vatican, various experiences that strengthen his powers as a teacher, a statesman and a governor.

Luis Antonio Gokim Tag: Asian Franciscus

The former Archbishop of Manila, 67, has been considered to be a rising star in the church since his appointment of his 1997 appointment to a group of Catholic theologians who give guidance on keyological issues to the church management. Born in Manila, the Vatican's first Asian Pope today (a handful of the first-name Syrian papers could be technically considered to be Asia)-the church, which is the strongest growth in Asia and Africa.

But it was his charisma, the defense of the poor, the call against climate change and his view that the church has been too harsh about homosexuality, divorced couples and unintentional mothers who many are compared to Franciscus. He prefers his nickname from Chito instead of the title of his office, and there are many stories about his lunch with Beggars and his liking for hiring public transport. He is something a cardinal effect with an active presence and dedicated to social mediaTo.

Peter Turkson: Africa's choice

Like Tagle, a 76 -year -old Turkson, Ghana, responds to a growing demand for a driver who represents the new Catholic Church's new center of gravity in Africa and Asia. A close adviser to Francis in his seminar Laudato Si Encyclic, which admonished Catholics (and the world) to protect the planet from climate change, Turkish Represents the continuation of the legacy of the progressive environmental and social justice of Francis, said Richard Lennan, professor of theology at Boston College. “Turkson would be an absolutely intriguing choice. You don't want a showman, but you want someone to inspire people. He has a rock node about social justice and his feet smear. He ticks all those Francisco boxes.”

The progressive department of Franciscus in multiple pastures, such as blessing same -sex couples and ordination of women's deacons has triggered criticism of other African church leaders and their names – their names – their names – Fridolin Ambongo BestangThe Democratic Republic of Congo and Robert Sarah Guinea has also been grown as potential African descendants in a more conservative vein.

Choosing a non-west pope not only means geographical representation, notes Brett C. Hoover, professor of theology at the University of Loyola Marymount, California, but the fact that these candidates are more aware of major problems affecting the global church than things appear in Western countries. [They are saying] 'We have poverty. We have our people moving around the world. We have an environmental impairment. “Hoover claims Hoover, like Francis, like Francis, like Francis, the first Latin -American Pope.

Péter Erdő: Traditionalist

Many of the church were on the key issues of Franciscus's progressive position, such as his restrictions on the Latin Mass, his readiness to open the main positions on non-unattended priests, and focus on listening to the Catholic community as much as leading it. They are looking for a candidate who adopts John Paul II and Benedict XVI's most traditional tendencies. Erdõ, 72, the Archbishop of Budapest is suitable for this form. He has been divorced or re -married to Catholics to give fellowship, against Gay pairs of blessings and he once said that immigrants may encourage traffickingTo. He is diplomatic, cautious and speaks or reads English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish, which gives him a linguistic advantage in polyellular competition. However, his height can be interpreted as a flat rejection of the Franciscus heritage, which can give many cardinals a conclave break, even if they agree in principle with his conservative attitude.

Pierbattista PizzaBalla: Compromise candidate

Italy's pizzaaballa is a Latin patriarch in Jerusalem, who serves the Israeli Catholic Church, Palestinian territories, Jordan and Cyprus. He has earned recognition and confidence for his ability to connect and understand in the deep gaps of the whole area. This may be a sales point for voters who want to overcome the church's deepening gaps after the Francis era. Unlike many other candidates, he has avoided doctrinal discussions, which may change his cardinals college for enough blocks to win the majority of the two -thirds.

His smart management from the financial crisis in the Patriarchate of Jerusalem turns to the Vatican's own financial state. But his age could work against him: at the age of 60, he would start what could be a pope for decades that few cardinals are willing to risk the unknown of the relative.
