Vitalik Buterin Aims to Simplify Ethereum Like Bitcoin

  • Buterin offers a simpler Ethereum inspired by Bitcoin.
  • “3 -plans” could make consensus leaner.
  • The execution layer can go to RISC-V for ZK performance gains.

The co-founder Ethereum Vitalik Buterin unveiled a vision to considerably simplify the central architecture of Ethereum over the next five years, inspired by the minimalist approach to Bitcoin. In a blog article entitled “Simplify the L1” published on May 3, Buterin stressed that the reduction in complexity is essential to improve the long -term efficiency, safety and sustainability of Ethereum.

“Ethereum in five years can become close to Bitcoin,” wrote Buterin, describing a series of architectural reforms focused on consensus, execution and standardization.

Simplify consensus and execution

At the heart of Buterin's proposal is the “3 slot finality” model, which aims to rationalize the Ethereum consensus mechanism by removing complex components such as eras and synchronization committees. This change would also allow safer and simpler fork choice rules.

To further improve the execution layer, Buterin proposed to replace the current Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) with a user-friendly virtual machine (ZK) based on RISC-V architecture. This could increase the performance of 100x in the ZK resistant generation and considerably reduce the complexity of the protocol.

The inherited EVM contracts would always be supported by a Risc-V interpreter on a chain to guarantee compatibility behind during the transition phase.

Standardization through the ecosystem

Buterin also recommended normalizing various technical aspects Ethereum protocolLike serialization (promoting SSZ), tree structures and erasure coding methods. This, he argued, would rationalize infrastructure and tools while reducing redundancies.

He compared simplicity to decentralization And the proposed adjustment of a “maximum line” limit to maintain lean, real and consensual logic. Non -essential inherited features could be moved outside the basic specification.

These changes arise at a time when Ethereum loses market share for faster and more friendly layer blockchains.
