Nike, Adidas Among Brands Urging Trump to Exempt Footwear From Tariffs

Distributors & Retailing footwear of America Trade Group (FDRA) calls President Donald Trump to exempt new prices shoes.

More than 80 American shoe companies, including Nike, Adidas and Skechers, have sent the press to protect their goods from prices.

“Our industry is only vulnerable”, letter States.

“With some of the highest rates already in place, especially on children's shoes and at low cost – these new prices are simply not durable. They will not bring manufacturing, but they will injure the families of the register.”

The letter calls for the situation an “emergency that requires immediate action and attention”, warning that shoe workers and American consumers will suffer, citing concerns about the loss of imminent shoes, additional costs for consumers and the reduction of consumption expenditure.

The coalition of manufacturers, brands and retailers argued that, unlike many other goods, shoes are already faced with some of the highest import taxes of the American tariff code, with prices reaching 20%, 37.5%, or more, in particular on children's shoes and low -priced shoes favored by working families.

They stressed that many companies are already struggling with the way of paying sudden and unforeseen prices on the goods ordered months ago that only arrived in American ports.

“The inability to pay these immediate and unforeseen additional prices places many American shoe companies at an imminent risk,” they warned.

Instead of general prices affecting daily consumer goods, shoe leaders have suggested that a “more targeted approach” focused on strategic articles would better serve national security interests without inflicting “unnecessary pain to American families”.

The letter ends with a clear request: “We ask you respectfully to remove the shoes from any reciprocal price diet.”

Adidas warned on Tuesday that radical prices could increase the costs of all its products in the United States because the company depends on imports.

“As we cannot currently produce our products in the United States almost, these higher prices will eventually be higher for all our products for the American market,” said CEO Bjørn Gulden.
