New York district gets interim US Attorney as ex-SafeMoon CEO trial kicks off

The US attorney for the Eastern District of New York (Edny) John Durham left while President Donald Trump's choice controls the office.

In a notice of May 5, the US attorney's office for Edny Says Joseph Nocella will serve as a temporary US lawyer for the region within 120 days or until a nominee that the Senate has confirmed the role. Nocella's appointment arrived as the jury began choosing the criminal trial of Braden John Karony, the former CEO of the Crypto firm SafeMoon.

It is unclear how the promotion of nocella, which US president Donald Trump has been appointed this month, may affect the case of prosecutors against Karony, who faces charges of conspiracy of fraud, wire conspiracy, and money conspiracy. Nocella said she intended to help the prosecution of “narcotic-traffickers, gang members, terrorists, people-traffickers and other criminals.”

The former CEO of the SafeMoon asked the court in February to consider the push for the start of the trial based on the “significant change” Trump suggested affecting US security laws, which potentially affect his criminal case.
