Most shops in Cannes to accept crypto by summer this year — Web3 exec

The merchants in Cannes, France, the site of the International Cannes Film Festival, are set to begin to receive crypto payments this year in an effort to attract high -income clients available by modernizing the commercial city payment ecosystem.
According to Artem Shaginian, founder and head of the web3 payment company Lunu Pay, the Municipal Municipal government is aiming for a 90% rate of adoption to local merchants. The executive also said in cointelegraph:
“It's a big signal. When a city like Cannes, known worldwide for culture and commerce, starts to integrate crypto on the scale, it shows that web3 payments are not just a niche. It's about proving that crypto can work in sunny settings, not just online or theory.”
In February, Cannes Mayor David Lisnard announced A Crypto Payment Payment Training Session for Business -owned and professionals to promote widespread acceptance of crypto payments in the city.
Canne's move toward embracing cryptocurrencies reflects the broader aging of crypto through the city, state, and federal government as these institutions seek to remain competitive in the global phase.

Leading the curve? Other constituents are modern in crypto
In December 2023, the Swiss City of Lugano began receiving bitcoin (BTC) and Stablecoin payments for taxes and municipal fees as part of the city's broader initiative to become a global crypto hub.
Governor Jared Polis of the State of the United States of Colorado taught the State Income Department to begin receiving Crypto tax payments in September 2022.
The Canadian City of Vancouver passed a movement in December 2024 to make the jurisdiction a “Bitcoin-Friendly City” by exploring the BTC's integration in the city's financial system and potentially adopting a Bitcoin Treasury approach.
Most recently, in April 2025, Panama capital announced that municipal taxes and fees can now be paid to crypto, including Bitcoin, Ether (Ether), US-dollar Stablecoin (USDC), and USDT (USDT) token.
Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi has suggested that the move is modern in the city and brings an increase in investment as well as global recognition.
