I Visited Steakhouse Chains to Find Best Cheap Meal; Winner Cost $24

  • I ordered surlong steaks of 6 ounces at 3 steakhouse channels to see if meals would be good value.
  • Longhorn Steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse served me solid meals that looked like a decent price.
  • Outback Steakhouse amazed me by using an excellent meal for less than $ 25, even after tax and tip.

If it seems that restaurant prices have increased in recent years, it is because they have done.

Average menu prices in the United States increased by 27.2% between February 2020 and summer 2024, according to data from the National Association of Restaurants.

Even so, I was wondering if I could still find good restaurant meals at a decent price. In this case, I throw my goal on a steak.

I ordered the same meal in three of the favorite steakhouse channels of America: Outback Steakhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse. I visited locations near me in Long Island, New York, during lunch hours early weekdays.

In each restaurant, I asked for a 6 ounce suronge steak (the cheapest steak that each chain offers) well cooked, the sides of potatoes and broccoli cooked with steam, and all the house bread came free with the meal.

Here's how my culinary experiences took place.

The meal of Longhorn Steakhouse left me slightly disappointed.

My net at Longhorn Steakhouse did not look super attractive for me at the start.

I ordered the overlord of 6 ounces – the Renégat surlong – at Longhorn Steakhouse and, as I would in three places, I asked for potatoes and broccoli in puree as an included sides.

My free bread was a honey wheat bread with a single honey size that seemed a little dry. I was wondering if I had just had expired bread.

The butter served next to it was the cold cold cold, which was not ideal for spreading on bread.

As alongside, my broccoli was very too cooked and too pasty for my taste.

The mash potatoes were quite good. They were creamy with enough melted butter at the top to stifle the flavor but not to overwhelm the texture or the taste on the side.

My steak had a tasty seasoning, but it was not perfect.

At first, I was a little put off by the irregular form of steak kidney acts.

By cutting edge in the overlord, it seemed to me that it had been cooked a little beyond the average well. However, I appreciated that the cut had a minimum of fat and fat.

The texture was a little difficult – I attribute it to the kitchen, not to the quality of the meat – but the simple seasoning of Longhorn was tasty with notes of pepper.

My surlk meal cost $ 18, and my check reached a little more than $ 23 after tax and a 20%tip. This price seemed right to me.

Overall, I was neither impressed nor impressed by my meal.

I would return to Texas Roadhouse every day, but mainly for bread.

The Roadhouse Texas Roadhouse had a fresh taste.

Ah, starting with free bread – those of you who frequent Texas Roadhouse nod, right?

Speak chain websiteIts famous rolls are “freshly baked every five minutes and served with honey cinnamon butter.”

To tell the truth, I think that butter has a too sweet taste, but who cares? The bread is so fresh, warm and tasty that it is worth the visit to the restaurant.

I find that the rollers are better appreciated as they are – they do not need butter of any kind to be incredible.

In terms of sides, my potatoes seemed to be a little over -off, leading to an overabundance of liberation of starch and this gum texture that most people, including me, do not like.

The broccoli was not as sweet as what I had in Longhorn, but it was still too cooked for my personal preference.

The steak was not bad and I was seduced by its price.

My surlk in Texas Roadhouse was not the most tender steak that I tried, but it always seemed a great value.

The 6 ounce overlord steak that I obtained in Texas Roadhouse seemed to be cooked correctly by good according to its color, but it was still a little difficult to cut and chew.

The slightly salty and peppery flavor profile of the meat was excellent, however. That said, I may have been the most impressed by the price of my steak.

I was impressed that my special 6 -ounce of lunch is only $ 14, and my bill came at only $ 19.20 after a 20% tip and taxes.

It looked like an outright flight, since the meal came with two sides and rolls. (I would have hosted a special price for lunch to other channels, but none was available.)

Even at the price of full dinner, the steak meal costs only $ 16, which always makes it the most affordable surlonge steak of the group. These exceptional prices only would probably be enough to prevent me from returning to Texas Roadhouse.

Outback Steakhouse surprised me by serving the best on both sides.

I found myself enjoying the potato puree in Outback Steakhouse.

This classic brunette bread of honey from Steakhouse of Outback was sweet and had a sweet flavor, but she had nothing on the rolls of Texas Roadhouse. The latter's offer is more memorable and fresh.

That said, the creamy butter of Outback was more for my taste

When my 6 ounce outback overlord meal arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful shape and appearance of the steak, the fresh herbs scattered, the potato puree ball and the generous part of the broccoli.

At Outback, I finally received broccoli that I can say, I barely felt too cooked. And for the record, I like my broccoli cooked with steam so that there is a hint of crunch, so for many people, this side would have been perfect.

The potato puree in Outback was close to perfection. Their texture was thick and rich in occasional pieces and pieces of potato skin mixed throughout.

The potatoes looked very much like I prepares at home, and it is a big praise.

The chain also served my favorite steak.

My steak in Outback seemed to be cooked as I wanted.

The cutting edge in the steak revealed the most tender cut of the meat of the three restaurants.

Here, I found a steak that seemed to have been perfectly cooked for good means with almost no touch of end -to -end.

It was tender, well seasoned and was worth its price of $ 18 – the high quality of both parties only supported my opinion.

The meal came to $ 23.54 with taxes and a 20%tip, making it the most expensive of the three meals, but not much.

Although I had a clear favorite, I would try each of the channels again

Each of the channels that I visited deserves to be visited for a decent and cheap steak meal, but Outback Steakhouse surprised me by fixing a high bar.

Aside from the free bread, the channel was my first choice at all levels.

However, I would recommend a steak meal in Texas Roadhouse, which impressed me with its wonderfully low prices and its delicious rolls. Although I am not completely sold on Longhorn Steakhouse, I am open to give it another blow, especially given the good price of the meal.

Speaking of prices – to put these meals in perspective, I did research. On average, a part of 6 ounces of Steak of Surlonge of Groceries near me would cost a little more than $ 5, a $ 1 potato, a broccoli head $ 2 and a Miche of $ 2 bread.

Based on these figures, I would spend about $ 10 just for the basic ingredients of the above meals.

After taking into account the other necessary ingredients, such as butter and seasonings, as well as the time and efforts necessary to prepare and cook everything, all these steak meals seemed to be even better.
