Mazda CX-30 Turbo SUV Review: Style and Performance, but Hefty Price

2025-05-04T19: 01: 19Z

  • The Mazda CX-30 is a crossed subcompact SUV which made its debut in 2020.
  • I was impressed by the turbocharged engine of the CX-30, the fun driving dynamics and the premium interior.
  • It has no passenger / cargo space, and its premium feeling has a price.

The price of the new average car approaching $ 50,000, consumers want small affordable SUVs and car manufacturers have answered their call.

The CX-30 is the entry of Mazda into the sub-cormenting SUV segment, which is filled with competent offers such as the Chevrolet Trax, Nissan Kicks and Honda HR-V.

Unlike most of the segment, the high-end variants of the CX-30 have a powerful and turbocharged engine, making it a viable alternative to BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi luxury models.

I recently had the chance to drive a fully loaded 2025 Turbo Mazda CX-30 to see how it compared to competition. I was impressed by its attractive style, animated performance and high -end presentation.

The CX-30 manufacturing of Mexico starts at $ 25,195 very reasonable for the basic non-turbo model.

The most affordable turbocharged topping is the 2.5 carbon turbo, which starts at $ 33,140.

My test car CX-30 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus at the range starts at $ 37,150, making it one of the most expensive offers of a non-luxurious brand of the segment.

The freight costs and a few options pushed the price as tested at $ 39,155.

Although the CX-30 has been on the market for half a decade, its style always looks fresh and modern.

The long lines and organic curves of the CX-30 are an evolution of the Kodo design language of Mazda, which seeks to express the beauty of nature in motion through a static object.

Mazda designers have mixed elements of coupes and SUVs together to create the sports silhouette of the CX-30.

At 173 inches long, it is one of the shortest vehicles in the segment, dragging the Chevrolet Trax nearly half a foot.

The CX-30 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

Open the hood of my test car and you will find an online turbocharged 2.5-liter engine of four-cylinder which produces 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular 87-octan. The output goes to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque with premium gas of 93 Octane.

The lower level models are powered by a natural suction version of the same 2.5-liter engine, which produces 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

The basic engine output makes the CX-50 one of the most powerful in the segment, but the turbo engine brings things to a completely different level. This is by far the most powerful engine available in a consumer-public crossover. In fact, you will have to pay more than $ 50,000 for a BMW X1 m35i or a GLA35 MERCEDES-AMG to obtain a SUV of this size with more power.

My turbocompressed loan has fuel saving figures of 22 Mi / GAL in town, 30 Mi / GAL on the highway and 25 MPG combined; The basic engine obtains four additional MPG MPGs in combined driving.

All CX-30s are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

In fact, all Mazda SUVs are standard with AWD.

Mazda leads as if it was a hot sporty sedan in a SUV body.

The Turbo CX-30 was an absolute explosion to drive, a rarity in the sub-corporation SUV segment, which focuses on efficiency and affordability.

I guess it should not be a surprise for the brand that gave us Miata and RX-7.

Its direction is clear and precise, and its well -turned suspension limits the body in the corners, creating a feeling of control and stability.

The turbo-four and the six-speed automatic constitute a powerful duo, quickly raising the CX-30 up to highway speeds without hesitation.

According to TendencyThe Turbo CX-30 can do 0 to 60 MPH in 5.8 seconds.

My only big complaint is the stroll less than picky, but this is the compromise you do for sports manipulation.

The CX-30 just feels more pleasant inside than many of its competitors. The soft leather pad with brown accents and an asymmetrical design adds a real touch of class and style to the case. Even better, Mazda supports this with effective ergonomics and first -rate adjustment and finish.

The front seats are the ideal place.

The seats of our previous Mazda test cars were not my favorite. I found them hard and uncomfortable, but the heated leather seats of the CX-30 were soft and offered good support.

The CX-30 is equipped with an impressive range of technology, but it can be heavy to use.

The optional touch screen of 10.25 inches optional from my car is superb, but the software behind makes it a little strange.

The CX-30 infoding screen is just a touch screen when Apple Carplay or Android Auto, which come from standard, are launched. In all other cases, the system requires the use of the bulky rotary controller on the central console.

My test car also came with the optional 360-degree camera, the color tête-à-tête screen and the Bose Premium audio system at 12 speakers.

All CX-30s are standard with an adaptive cruise control, support assistance and a transverse rear alert.

The rear cabin is tight and lacks space for the legs compared to its rivals.

Despite the space offer for the head similar to its rivals, the high belt of the CX-30 and the small windows can make the rear cabin dark and small.

With 36.3 inches of leg space, the CX-30 offers three inches more than the Nissan kicks, but hangs out the 2.5-inch chevy trax.

The loading capacity is not the solid combination of the CX-30.

The CX-30 has one of the smallest loading compartments of the segment, with only 20.2 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats. This represents about 20% less space than the Rivaux Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V and Nissan kicks.

The CX-30 loading compartment covers 45.2 cubic feet with the folded rear seats.

My verdict: the Mazda CX-30 is a small fun SUV that offers performance, style and luxury in a segment that generally prioritizes utility transport.

I really liked to drive the Mazda CX-30. It looks incredible, seems premium, manages very well and has the most impactful engine of the segment. However, it is also a bit short on space, it is not great for transporting freight and does not get the best fuel economy.

In the end, the Mazda CX-30 is a story of compromise. This forces the consumer to decide what is really important for them. And if the answer is the style and the pleasure of driving, the CX-30 is the SUV the size of a pint for you.
