Alexis Ohanian Says Robotics Will Level the Parental Playing Field

Outdated parents will soon be able to outsource their most banal household chores to robots, which allows them to be more present to their children, the co -founder of Reddit and technological investor Alexis Ohanian predicted on Tuesday during a world conference panel of the Milken Institute.
Ohanian, who shares two girls with his wife, the Tennis Serena Williams superstar, referred to a Ted Talk By the Swedish doctor Hans Rosling on the magic of the washing machine when it was believed to be how robotics will lead to a similar revolution in the coming years.
“For women, for mothers, they spent such a disproportionate quantity of their time doing laundry in hand, that this machine appeared in people's lives, it was a major and major revolution in terms of Lib and Liberty and Time of Women,” said Ohanian.
He added: “My hope is that you know, we now arrive in a place with a robotic which, probably over the next two years, three years, of households with higher income – and, you know, the technology will lower these prices fairly quickly – but I think that households in the upper class can have something that makes your bedroom look like.
The Ohanian panel participated in parents on parents trying to find a good balance between professional and private life while raising their children in the modern world. Ohanian, the only father in the panel, said that the progress of robotics will be essential to help alleviate the “disproportionate charge” of guardian work which often falls to mothers rather than fathers, in today's society.
“My hope is,” said Ohanian. “That what we can get from something like robotics – that, again, at first, just the rich will have, but over time, many more households will have – maybe an incredibly powerful tool to start leveling the rules of the game in terms of time release.”
The other panelists presented in the one hour conversation included
Eve Rodsky, the author of “Fair Play”, and Becky Kennedy, founder and CEO of Good Inside. They pointed out that, while women often perform the majority of simple work tasks such as grocery store and laundry, parenting goes far beyond simply ensuring that the tasks are carried out.
“I believe that until we invite men to their full power at home, like Alexis – and by full power, I mean the partnership, not the property, not for lesiliaries, as” if you are so overwhelmed, tell me just what to do and I will help “, then we will continue to see this disparity,” said Rodsky.
Ohanian accepted and said he hoped to see more men “intensify” and participate in daily tasks like bringing their children to their doctors' appointments – something he said: “That men never do, at least according to the data. “”
In recent years, Ohanian has become a vocal defender of paternal leave, an area in which he declared that the technological industry had “paved the way for working. He worked with President Donald Trump's first administration to encourage 12 -week paid parental leave to all federal workers, which Trump signed in 2019 in his first mandate.
Ohanian said that having children was a “really impressive” experience that forced him to take a perspective; Something he hopes to encourage more people to do by making him more accessible, especially among low -income households.
“Having a child was such a humiliating experience, especially for someone who really had, I am the first to admit it, I have always prioritized at the end of the day,” said Ohanian. “It was so clarifying because it gave me a reason why I should build the things I build that was greater than me. It was a limited spiritual experience.”
Ohanian did not immediately respond to a request for comments from Business Insider.
