Police arrest suspect in theft of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse

A suspect was arrested in connection with the robbery last week by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Naem's Pallet while he was eating at a Washington, DC, restaurant, officials said on Sunday.

Noem's pursewas captured at EasterSunday and reported containing nearly $ 3,000 cash, its keys, driver's license, home security passport and badge. Homeland Security Department said Naem had cash in his wallet to pay for gifts, dinners and other activities for his family at Easter.

A suspect was taken care of without Washington incident following an investigation by the US Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department, according to the Secret Service Washington Field Office Special Agent at Charge Matt McCool.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday, the police department said.

Interim District of Columbia US Attorney Ed MartinNBC News told the suspect that the suspect was in the country illegally.

In a ready statement, McCool called the suspect a “serial offender” and said there was no evidence that Naem was targeted for his position.

“There is no indication that this is because of that. It's frankly, it's a good looking purse,” Martin saidNBC news.

McCool said the investigation revealed evidence of potential device and credit card fraud.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the suspect was connected to two other wallet robbery at restaurants in Washington earlier this month through video evidence. The suspect was charged with robbery for other incidents.

The secret service is investigating the robbery of the noem and will present its findings in the federal court. There was no indication of criminal charges filed against the suspect on Sunday.

The secret service specified questions at the US attorney office, which did not respond to emails seeking additional information.

Noem thanked the law enforcement agencies “for searching and arresting a criminal who stole my bag on Easter Sunday as I shared food with my family.”

“This individual is a criminal career that has been in our country for years,” Noem said in a ready statement. The DHS did not immediately respond to an email requesting further detail on the suspect's immigration status.
