Prime Minister Mark Carney will head to Washington on Tuesday for his first face – up to the face of a meeting with US President Donald Trump, trying to patch a trade relations he warned last week was “Done.”
The trip will come just days after Carney's Liberal Party won the general election, ending a campaign managed by Trump's jabs in Canada and sudden tariffs on its exports.
Speaking to Ottawa on Friday at his first news conference as Prime Minister, Carney Says He and Trump were “a very constructive call” and agreed to meet at the White House.
“Our focus is on immediate trade pressures and a broader economic and security link between our two countries with sovereignty,” he told journalists, adding difficult but unique communications before.
Carney also announced that King Charles would travel to Ottawa later this month to open the new parliament with a speech. This will be the first time in the nearly 50 years the Monarch has held the ceremony.

Carney will be in charge of a minority after the liberals just fell into most chairs, however he outlined plans to “advance the country's development investments that would change our economy.”
