El Salvador’s Economy Minister Says Bitcoin Accumulation Spree an ‘Important Project’ Despite IMF Deal: Report

A senior Salvador officials would have indicated that Bitcoin's purchases (BTC) are continuing despite a loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who called to reset them.
According to a new Bloomberg report, Maria Luisa Hayem, Minister of Economy of El Salvador, said The country's decision to accumulate Bitcoin as a reserve actor does not cease.
“There is a commitment to [El Salvador President Nayib] Bukele to continue to accumulate assets as a way to do this exactly …
Bitcoin continues to be an important project. There is an accumulation of assets that we see from the point of view of the government, from the point of view of the private sector. »»
Questions on the purchase of El Salvador Bitcoin have been raised since they received $ 1.4 billion in Washington -based lender at the end of last year in exchange for promises of promises which included the strengthening of his tax accounts and reducing purchases of the flagship asset of cryptography.
However, purchases do not seem to run after the loan conditions.
Earlier this week, the IMF answered a question from the financial software company ION Group asking for how El Salvador is still accumulating BTC despite his acceptance to stop making more purchases as part of a loan agreement.
Rodrigo Valdes, director of the western hemisphere department of the IMF, said that despite recent Bitcoins purchases, the country still works in its “performance criteria” set out by the IMF.
“In terms of El Salvador, let me say that I can confirm that they continue to comply with their commitment to non-accumulation of Bitcoin by the overall tax sector, which is the performance criteria that we have.
But in addition to that, I think it is very important for the discussion in Salvador. El Salvador's program does not concern Bitcoin. It is much more, much more deeply in structural reforms, in terms of governance, in terms of transparency. There is a lot of progress there. And also, on tax. And the authorities have made a lot of progress by implementing the reform. »»
