US Signs Minerals Deal for Access to Ukraine’s Natural Resources

The United States and Ukraine have concluded a major transaction by granting American companies privileged access to key natural resources in Ukraine – including aluminum, graphite, oil and natural gas – which could stimulate technological and automobile sectors.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent signed the agreement in Washington, DC.
“This agreement clearly signals to Russia That the Trump administration is attached to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign and long -term prosperous Ukraine, “the Treasury department said in a press release.” President Trump envisaged this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to show both parties to the commitment of American peace and prosperity in Ukraine. “.
The Wednesday press release added that this economic partnership positions Ukraine and the United States to “work in collaboration and invest together” to ensure that “our mutual assets, our talents and our capacities can accelerate the economic recovery of Ukraine”.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said on social networks, “with the United States, we create the fund that will attract global investments in our country”.
Bessent said later in a video press release that the agreement would help “unlock Ukraine growth assets”.
Trump's trade war has increased the importance of an agreement with Ukraine
The agreement comes at a time of the increase in the uncertainty of the supply chain under a current trade war with China, where 90% of the current metals of current rare land come.
From April 4, China has limited exports of seven rare elements of land and related materials in response to Trump prices, potentially affecting critical industries such as defense, energy and cars.
Ukraine has a rich range of natural resources that are of growing importance for the United States. Graphite, lithium and titanium are essential for the production of EV batteries, solar panels and military equipment, while high purity neon gas and rare land metals are essential for the manufacture of semiconductors under an increasing demand for artificial intelligence.
The mineral agreement was originally to be signed on February 28, but the visit of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington ended with acrimony.
The agreement was signed only a few days after Trump and Zelenskyy met in person on the sidelines of Pope Francis funeral, while the cease-fire talks between Moscow and Washington continue. Trump on Wednesday called their face -to -face meeting a “moment of comfort in a sense” in an interview with ABC News.
The White House and the Treasury Department did not respond to requests for comments.
