25,000,000 Customers’ Personal Information At Risk As Telecom Giant Discovers Malware for Mass SIM Swapping

A giant telecom offers 25 million people free SIM cards after a massive hack that left the sensitive personal information of its customers.
SK Telecom, the largest mobile provider in South Korea, has been identified in a Security of security that its customers' personal data is exposed to a malware attack on the company.
The company said in an announcement last month that “no cases of misuse of information have been confirmed to this day.” However, local publication KOREA JOONG DAY -TAKE reports that some of SK Telecom's customers have discovered the money stolen from their bank accounts after the hacking incident.
Police reported that three days after the hack, someone found out that his mobile plan with SK Telecom was suddenly canceled, and company employees told him at a service center with someone signing up for a budget plan with another service provider with his name.
Shortly, the man discovered that 50 million Koreans won – about $ 34,000 – was stolen from his bank account of unknown people in five separate transactions. He called the police and asked his bank to freeze his account.
Hack victims were formed by an organization looking for collective action against SK Telecom, and demanding a full attack investigation.
The group, called “SKT usim hacking joint response,” told Korea Joong Daily that they believe that the worse has come from the data violation, and that the giant telecom giant reaction to mishap is not hurt.
“Leak information can lead to severe secondary financial damage, social networking and other services relying on verification of mobile phone number … SK Telecom's response is not enough.
The scope and extent of the injury are not clearly stated, which boost the user's anxiety and confusion. “
SK Telecom subsequently offered free SIM cards for all 25 million customers.
However, the company now said that only AHold will get 6 million SIM cards for the entire May, which means that it will take some time to follow it with its payment plan.
The company says in a Update,
“[SK Telecom] There are currently 1 million SIMs and plans to secure 5 million more SIMs by the end of May. However, since many customers will come at the same time and the wait hours are expected to be long, please check in advance through the online reservation application system. “
